M2-CYCLE: an Optical Layer Algorithm for Fast Link Failure Detection in All-Optical Mesh Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
To achieve fast link failure detection in all-optical networks, the notion of monitoring-cycle (m-cycle) is introduced. The best known m-cycle construction algorithm (HST [7]) adopts a spanning tree-based approach. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm M-CYCLE to construct a set of minimum-length mcycles (or m-cycles) for more efficient link failure detection. We prove that the performance of M-CYCLE is never worse than any spanning tree-based approach. Comparing M-CYCLE to the existing algorithms, we show that it uses the least amount of network resources (measured by the number of cycles, cover length and monitoring wavelength requirement) to achieve the most accurate link failure detection (measured by localization degree). Keywords-All-optical networks (AONs); cycle cover; fast link failure detection; monitoring-cycle.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks
Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...
متن کاملShared Protection by Concatenated Rings in Optical WDM Networks
The design of survivable all-optical mesh networks based on bidirectional wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) self-healing rings (SHRs) to supply complete protection against any single link failure requires an efficient solution. This paper proposes a shared protection algorithm called shared protection by concatenated rings (SPCR) using selfhealing capability and a pre-configuration mechani...
متن کاملRestoration Design in IP over Reconfigurable All-Optical Networks
Large IP backbone networks today are mostly deployed directly over sequences of point-to-point DWDM systems or chains of newer ROADM-based ultra long haul systems, interconnected by OEO regenerators. The next generation core optical network is moving toward an all-optical network architecture that is based on multi-degree ROADMs to reduce OEO regeneration cost as well as enabling automatic reco...
متن کاملLightpath routing for maximum reliability in optical mesh networks
We consider the problem of maximizing the reliability of connections in optical mesh networks against simultaneous failures of multiple fiber links that belong to a shared-risk link group (SRLG). We study the single-lightpath, parallel-lightpaths, and lightpath protection problems for connections between two end nodes, as well as the lightpath-ring problems for connections of three or more end ...
متن کاملDesign of Arrayed Waveguide Grating based Optical Switch for High Speed Optical Networks
This paper demonstrates the design of an Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) based optical switch. In the design both physical and network layer analysis is performed. The physical layer power and noise analysis is done to obtain Bit Error Rate (BER). This has been found that at the higher bit rates, BER is not affected with number of buffer modules. Network layer analysis is done to obtain perfor...
